  • Should the government be doing more to stabilize home prices?
    For the most part, I don't think that's appropriate. There are some limited areas, like relaxing restrictions on foreign ownership, where we can still help out.
  • Do you believe the federal government is doing enough to enforce laws against employing illegal immigrants?
    E-Verify is a good start, but too many companies don't use it. It should be mandatory for any employer hiring more than a few employees.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    I don't want to comment on an issue that is best left to the voters of Arizona.
  • Should the federal government continue to finance newer companies that attempt to develop alternative energy resources, such as solar power and electric car manufacturers?
    We have the example of Solyndra staring us in the face, and people want to do the same thing again with other companies? We should end this program as soon as possible.
  • How long should U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan?
    I can't comment on that question without emboldening the enemy. I will consult with military leaders to determine our best course of action.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I'm opposed this personally. I think that, you know, different states have different opinions on this matter and it's best left to them to decide on the issue.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    We should keep the tax cuts as is for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's sound economics to rise taxes on this group.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This is the wrong way to reform the American health care system. We should be focusing on malpractice reform and on cutting red tape for private insurers.
  • Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue?
    That's ridiculous. Of course not.
  • Should Angela Merkel be doing more to preserve to Euro as the European Union's common currency?
    If Merkel fails in this mission, we all will be affected negatively. I have the utmost faith that she realizes this and will act accordingly.
  • Should taxpayers be forced to subsidize Planned Parenthood via federal subsidies?
    I will end federal funding for Planned Parenthood on Day 1 of my Administration.
  • The budget for the Department of Housing and Urban Development was cut by nearly $4 billion in 2012. Do you think subsidized housing for the poor is a good place to begin reducing the federal deficit?
    We'll have to make decisions like these at some point. It's better to do so now when we still have some control over the outcome, rather than waiting for a budget crisis to kick in.
  • Are you satisfied with the provisions within the 2012 Federal Highway Bill that could salvage over two million jobs in the construction industry?
    We should monitor these expenditures very closely to make sure that they are being allocated properly. There is always the chance of cronyism and misappropriation when there is spending of this magnitude.
  • The most recent data (for 2010) on Pell Grants indicate that 60% of all college students receive one. In that same year, the program cost $36 billion. What changes, if any, would you recommend to this program?
    These programs should only aid the truly needy. It seems like the criteria is a little loose to me.
  • This morning you went to an elementary school and read books to a class of second-graders. How did you enjoy yourself?
    It's always refreshing to spend my morning in a classroom full of America's future leaders and inventors.
  • After episodes such as the 'flash crash' in 2010, would you support a small financial transactions tax, with the sole purpose being to target high-frequency trading systems?
    I'm opposed to this idea. The last thing we need to right now is create new forms of taxation.
  • What do you think the next steps should be in regards to Medicare?
    Medicare is a good program. We need to find some way of controlling costs and of more effectively managing care, but the overall program is sound.
  • Do FEMA insurance payouts encourage real estate developers to build in disaster prone areas?
    There is absolutely a danger of this happening. That's why we have a National Flood Insurance Program which provides strict guidelines on where people are permitted to build.
  • You are one of the wealthiest individuals to ever run for President. Does this make it harder for you to understand the concerns of the average American voter?
    Not at all. I grew up in (somewhat) modest circumstances and I know what it's like to work your way up through life.
  • The rhetoric from some Republicans towards immigrants from Mexico has been quite harsh. Can you distance yourself from such comments?
    I think in isolated cases a few people have said things that aren't appropriate. Overall however, it's important for us to maintain the proper level of vigilance on the immigration issue.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    My message will be a message of hope. After four years of economic blight the American people need to feel good about themselves, and they need to know that their efforts will be rewarded with material prosperity.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    American Exceptionalism -- Providence has given America to the world as an inspiration, and we must vigorously defend the ideals of peace and freedom wherever they may be threatened.
  • Do you have any plans to offer Sarah Palin a role in your Administration?
    I don't want to promise or not promise anything at this point. We will review all qualified candidates after we win this election in November.
  • Be perfectly honest. How do you like Barack Obama as a person?
    Barack is a decent guy. Our personal feelings for each other are not the issue. What's important are our differences of opinion on how to get the American economy moving.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
