- A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea? This is an unconscionable violation of civil rights and will certainly lead to racial profiling.
- Does it make sense to dispose our nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain in Nevada?Nuclear power has proven itself to be a dangerous policy idea. We should be moving away from nuclear and into more environmentally friendly types of energy.
- Do you support a larger fence or even a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration? The border fence should become a border wall, with more depth to its patrols. It is simply too easy for migrants to sneak across the border right now.
- What is your position on gay marriage?Gay marriage should be protected at the federal level. The Defense of Marriage Act should be repealed.
- Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?I support letting the cuts expire. It's time that wealthy Americans paid their fair share for the opportunities our society gives to them.
- Overall, are you satisfied with the trade relationship between the U.S. and China? This should be a model for other trade agreements as the developing world continues to seek the benefits of globalization.
- The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary? This policy has contributed to the degradation of the American diet and contributes to our exploding obesity and diabetes epidemics. It should be ended.
- What do you think we should do next in regards to Social Security? You know, the projected shortfall that people talk of, we're not even talking about the Trust Fund making a net payout until 2033. Maybe there are some tweaks we can make to the program, but it is fundamentally sound.
- Michigan was one of the hardest hit states in the recent recession. Do you support higher taxes on foreign vehicles while that auto industry regroups in that state?Absolutely. We need to create an environment where American products can compete fairly with foreign imports.
- Do you support increased restrictions on handgun ownership?Handgun ownership should be severely restricted. Any other system makes it too easy for guns to be smuggled to Mexico and to urban gangs within the U.S.
- The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?I'm convinced that this program will work. This is a good compromise allowing private insurers to conduct business, while securing access to health insurance for more Americans. If anything, the increased transparency will reduce insurance costs.
- Should the DEA prosecute medicinal marijuana growers in states where that practice has been legalized? This entire thing wouldn't even be an issue if marijuana were decriminalized as it should be. The DEA should never be prosecuting non-violent, licensed growers of medicinal marijuana.
- Should Angela Merkel be doing more to preserve to Euro as the European Union's common currency? What's happening now in Europe is criminal. The working class is being punished to fulfill the avarice of huge, multinational banks. Germany should be doing much more to assist Greece, Italy, and Spain before it is too late.
- Apple's use of cheap, Chinese labor via Foxconn has increased the visibility of labor conditions in that country. Do you think that China competes unfairly with the U.S. by denying basic rights to its workers? These workers were very well paid in comparison to the average person in their area. I don't see a problem with what Apple is doing.
- Who are the real job creators in this country -- hardworking American citizens or Washington bureaucrats? Are you expecting me to even answer such a loaded question?
- Tell us how you feel about the Keystone Pipeline. It's shameful that we're even having a debate on this. It just goes to show how much influence oil companies have at the highest levels of government.
- Would you consider military action in Syria if the impasse between Bashar Assad and the rebels there continues?I will do what is necessary to preserve freedom and human rights in Syria. It's impossible to say whether that means committing the U.S. military or not at this point.
- In the past you have expressed varying opinions about abortion. Can you reassure the evangelical Christian movement that you are 100% pro-life in all circumstances?I'm a proud moderate on the abortion issue.
- Can you clear up any confusion with the Republican base about your beliefs on global warming?I don't think it's unconservative to say that when a nation turns its back on science, that nation is destined to fail. Just look at what happened to the Arab world after the 1200s.
- Would you nominate any Democrats to your cabinet if elected?Hillary Clinton has done an outstanding job as Secretary of State. I would be glad to have her on board for my Administration.
- Scott Brown is currently fighting the good fight in the Massachusetts Senate race. Would you be open to offering him a position in your Administration if he falls short there?I'm not sure about that to be honest. Scott Brown is a bit moderate for the kind of Republican I envision having in my cabinet. We'd rather have staunch, reliable conservatives on the team.
- What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
- What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?Human Rights -- It's past time that we cut allegiances with dictators like the House of Saud and truly lived up to our ideals. I will only support or give aid to democratically elected leaders.
- It has now been four years since the financial crisis plunged this country into a steep recession. Do you attribute current economic conditions more to Obama or to Bush? This is mostly a result of Bush's failed policies. Regulatory failures allowed too many bad loans to make their way into the financial system. We will not repeat this mistake.
- In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
